Ho To Plan and Actually Achive Your Goals and Live Your Best Life Possible
We often endlessly chase dreams or plan for the future, forgetting to embrace the abundance, fulfillment, and experiences available to us in our present moments. In our pursuit of success, we overlook the joy of the present, always preparing for “someday” or believing that happiness will come only after achieving a certain goal. But true fulfillment comes from balancing ambition with appreciation—working toward the future while fully living in the moment.
What the heck does this mean?! To do the things you love now!
Most of our goals are our priorities but not urgent, so we procrastinate a lot. We fill our calendar and daily checklist with urgent matters, getting a hit of dopamine, and feeling productive but never making progress on what matters most to us.
Three things I always have available:
- Life Vision Board
- Monthly Budget
- Yearly Calendar
Your life will improve tremendously if you implement these tools in your daily life.
These three things were created on Google Docs. They’re easy to edit and improve on as you experience life and learn but you can create this on paper too.
Create a Forever Vision Board
This is one of the best and easiest investments I’ve ever made.
- Open Google Docs and Title it “Life’s Vision Board”
- Identify core life priorities that bring you fulfillment, Freedom, Love, and Happiness and that shape the life you truly want to live. Once you know what your core life priorities are, you will google pictures that represent your priorities. My main priorities now are Financial freedom (with a picture of a specific number of 10 million on the picture), Entrepreneurship, Friends (building meaningful relationships), Career (enjoy my job or make the best of it while I build my freedom in life), Healthy Mind and Body, Traveling, and in the middle I have a picture of core life Values to live life.
- Place these pictures at the top of the page. Align them all neatly (in no specific order).
- At the bottom of these pictures, write your life’s mission statement. Ex: “My Life’s Mission Statement”. “I, David Bedolla, commit to living a life based on personal freedom, self-discipline, and good overall principle values. I’ll live a healthy life full of awesome experiences while building meaningful relationships…”
- Finally, under your mission statement, you will create a to-do list of goals and aspirations you want to achieve in life. It could be small or big goals. The more you spend time looking at this system, the more clarity you will get and the more sense of direction you’ll have as you choose your priorities.
This isn’t just a motivational tool, it’s a life map, a compass, and a system you can live by. You’ve created a road map to a more fulfilling life based on you and not based on what life throws at you.
Every time you lack motivation, and clarity and feel overwhelmed, you can reset by looking at your creation.
You will adapt and improve as you start creating the life you want. Your core values, mission statement, priorities, and goals on your checklist may change, but now you’ll always have a sense of direction. You’ll know if you’re living a life based on your values and if anything in your current life needs change or improvement.
In order to live your best life possible your word, character, and personality must mean something. People should trust and believe your words and should want to trust and want to be like you. They’ll feel that there is something different about you compared to most.
Monthly Budget
Money is a tool, a necessity. Its value and effect on the world and your life depend on how you use it. The things you can achieve in your current life and in the future depend on how you handle your finances.
It’s important that you nurture and pay attention to your money or it’ll go somewhere where it’s actually appreciated (don’t confuse appreciation/gratefulness with praise or pedestal).
So how does this help with living your best life and how do you do it?
- Open google sheets
- Title it Month, Year, and Monthly Budget. EX: Jan. 2025 Monthly Budget
- List your main Monthly Expenses that you know have to get paid no matter what
- Find out the average monthly income and how much will you have left after paying your main expenses. Here you will start seeing what things are eating up your money and if some of your expenses align with your Values, Core Goals, and Mission Statement based on your Vision Board. You might decide to move somewhere less expensive but keep your more expensive car, or start eating out less to spend more on entertainment. If you’re really living paycheck to paycheck you might have to limit yourself as much as possible just for a while. You now will have more clarity on how much more you need to earn to comfortably pay your main expenses.
- Now look at number five on creating your Vission Board To Do List. Here you’re able to see what needs resolving right now, what you should focus on, or what goals to pursue based on how much you can afford. As you start scratching off some of your easy items on your list your goals and aspirations will grow. Your confidence will grow. Include anything and everything that you know will bring you a sense of freedom, happiness, or fulfillment on your Life’s to-do list. For example, some of my past list items were:
- Get a higher-paying job
- Learn how to dance cumbia
- Move to a cheaper place for now
- Visit Japan…
After all of my expenses, I knew I needed a better-paying job. I started spending less on things that I don’t mind not doing like eating out as often. Eating out on weekends with friends, girlfriends, or brothers now and then while I get my finances up is fine. I enjoy my money and experiences when I eat out and socialize. But, if it’s during the week I rather cook and save as much as possible.
Also in my life’s to-do list, I know I want to learn how to dance. Because I don’t spend much and I keep my expenses as low as possible I can afford to take dance lessons. This way I get to socialize and have fun for cheaper. It’s a skill that will also stay with me forever. Once I have increased my finances with a new job I can reassess my possibilities, wants, and needs.
Also, consider both time and financial affordability. Don’t take on too much or you’ll kill the fun, and excitement by doing too much. You might also destabilize your finances by trying to do too much too fast. Look to enjoy but also think long term.
Now that you have chosen things that have meaning to you it’s time to take charge of YOUR time.
Yearly Calendar
- You can google Free Google Calendar Templates on Google Sheets. Choose a simple one like the printout ones you find at a store. If you choose a too complicated and colorful calendar you’ll get overwhelmed and procrastinate. By trying to create too much perfect clarity you lose sight of your day of your purpose.
- Use both your phone’s calendar and your template. Most likely you’ll be able to connect your Google Sheets calendar to your Google Calendar. Using the phone calendar gives you awareness, and keeps you notified; using the template gives you vision.
- In each box day write down only three to five main things for the day that truly align with your mission and Life’s to-do list. Make time for what you really want or it’ll never happen. REMEMBER: Most of our goals are our priorities but not urgent, so we procrastinate a lot. Don’t let this be you. It’s time to shine baby!
- When urgent things come up you now get to decide if It’s your urgency or if someone is trying to put their life onto you. If it’s a real emergency then there is no question of what you should do. But if it’s something you can say no to, delegate it, or eliminate it then do it.
- Anticipate and announce before people throw rocks and responsibilities at you. It’ll be harder for you to self-sabotage, life will get easier as you do this and if you really want this for you, you will make it work. The hardest thing about this part of the system will be dealing with other people and setting boundaries. Learning how to say no. If you already know you will be focusing on learning a new skill for an hour or attending some class anticipate who or what might take your time and handle it beforehand. Announce that during those hours you will be busy.
I really hope this helps you even if it’s just a little bit. Use it, adapt it, and improve on it as you see best for your life.
At the end of the day, your life is built by the choices you make daily. The Vision Board, Budget, and Yearly Calendar aren’t just tools—they’re the foundation for designing a life you love rather than settling for whatever comes your way.
The more you commit to this system, the more clarity, confidence, and control you’ll gain over your future. You’ll stop drifting and start making intentional moves that align with your vision. No more waiting for “someday”—you’re making it happen now.
The world isn’t waiting for you to get ready. Your best life starts when you decide to live it. So take charge, set your direction, and go after it with everything you’ve got.
